Orders entered through COMET pass through a set of defined business rules: a series of verifications and automatic updates prior to confirmation. If an order does not meet all the outlined conditions, an on-line message displays to the user. Some key features within the review rules include:

- Abandoned orders are removed automatically after 45 days
- Some companies customize the system so an individual with the appropriate authority can place one order for an entire division or region instead of placing individual orders for each person that is supposed to receive the shipped items. This means that the entire division or region gets shipped the same items listed on the order without any exceptions
- Some organizations also allow individuals with specific roles such as Managers, Sales Managers or CSRs to place an order on behalf of another individual
